Icon is honored to have Mickey Zucker Reichert conduct a Writer's Workshop.

"Anyone who wants to know the details of the running of the workshop can ask me. I have a particular way of doing it that seems to work pretty well and mostly follow the Clarion model. I usually explain "the rules" at the workshop but am willing to elaborate them if anyone needs to know."

Please realize that a workshop takes TIME. We will need an hour per manuscript. It must be understood and agreed upon by all participants that they STAY FOR THE ENTIRE SESSION (or at least the bulk of it). It is as much their responsibility to critique the other writers as it is to be critiqued. It is not fair to the others, and very rude, if they shirk that duty. Five hours will be arranged to allow for an hour per manuscript and breaks, snacks, etc. If participants don't take adequate time to read and write on the manuscripts, it will take even longer.

Manuscripts need to be limited. Usually, that is a short story or novel chapter that is up to twenty pages long double-spaced with 1 inch margins. Mickey usually make exceptions for up to ten more pages if they are necessary to complete the story or scene. Mickey would rather spend more time than have people cutting paragraphs to make it come in under the cut-off.
Undersized manuscripts are never a problem.

MECHANICS AND TIMELINE

People wanting to participate have to be all weekend members of Icon. Your membership payment may be in with your submission. The first four people to submit (by postmark)will have their manuscripts discussed. The second four will in standby, allowed to attend the workshop and discuss the others' manuscripts.
