At Icon 32, the second floor is the party /Consuite floor

After reserving your room with the hotel, people who want to do room parties need to send their name and hotel confirmation number to hotel@iowa-icon.com.  We will assure your room is in the correct area.

Party Flyers:
Party flyers are allowed to be posted on any bulletin board or grid in the hotel. There will be bulletin boards or grid on the second (party) floor, by Programming, by the Consuite, and in other high traffic areas. Flyers cannot be posted on any wall surface of the hotel regardless of what material it is made of.  Flyers are also not permitted to be posted in the elevator.

All signage must be removed by 12:00pm on Sunday.

The con suite will again not be serving alcohol because the legal liabilities and insurance are just too great a burden for the corporation under the current laws and legal atmosphere. Think about what they would do to your life.

Icon 32 Room Party Guidelines for responsible hosting.

There will be many persons (some of them under the age of 21) attending Icon. As a party host or hostess it is your responsibility to keep a few items in order so all may have a good time. As the host of a room party at Icon you have a few responsibilities to the convention. This year we will be more observant and will be taking badges of persons who are not able to control their liquor consumption. (The badge will be returned when the person deserves it.)
1. All room parties will be held on the 2nd floor, any parties found in areas outside the designated party floor will be shut down.
2. Having a selection of beverages (not necessarily alcoholic) and snacks is recommended. You do not need to provide a fully stocked bar to have a good party. Generally having one or two options for “alcoholic” beverages and/or a selection of non-alcoholic beverages is sufficient. If you can cover any drink that a guest asks for, you have brought too much alcohol.
3. If you are serving alcoholic beverages, it is your responsibility to check the ID of any guest requesting alcohol. Iowa law states that an individual must be 21 years of age to consume alcoholic beverages. That means they must be born before 1 November 1986. It is your responsibility to ask for an ID, either driver's license or equivalent. .
4. As the host, it is your responsibility to stop serving someone if you feel that they have had more than enough to drink. If you have a problem, contact an Icon staff member through the con suite and someone will be dispatched to assist you. If you as host believe it necessary, call the hotel front desk or 911.  We would rather deal with the police than someone get hurt, self inflicted or otherwise.  (We would perfer to not have deal with either the police or hotel management but we have our priorities.)
5. Be a responsible host: monitor your own consumption during the party.
6. Staff will be patrolling the party floor to make sure that things are going smoothly.  (We miss you, Tucker).
7. Despite all of the above, please enjoy hosting a party and feel free to ask questions if you need assistance.

We enjoy partying too, so much so we hope to be doing it for many Icons to come.
